ENVIRONMENTAL PAINTING #1

Temporary Installation

This project was executed as part of a series of critical projects addressing urban development. Two abandoned trucks, located at the edge of a regional highway, were painted bright contrasting colours to participate in the visual landscape on equal terms to that of billboards.

By causing drivers to temporarily stop their continuous scan across an undifferentiated horizon, the project attemps to freeze and to frame a view of the rapidly developing edge of suburbia and in so doing, to slow down the assumed and accepted pace of urban expansion - for a brief moment.

The colours used were inspired by the reverberating and time distilling canvases of Mark Rothko.
